Submitted 2011-02-14 16:24:32 Knowing the principles behind the car Gps navigation and how precisely they work will help you to purchase your new GPS and maybe better understand and operate your current one.
Your Gps navigation also has maps stored; a lot of them. All of these maps have exact coordinates on them. Once your Gps navigation had established where it is on its internal map it will update accordingly. Your car GPS does this on the order of a few times a second in most cases. This is a very good thing because this will allow you to see where you are from moment to moment. More accurately this allows you to see where your GPS is at; the satellites don't really care where you are.
Speaking of maps,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], your car Gps navigation does not count on the satellite feed to update the maps. Sometimes your GPS will tell you to avoid construction where there is none, or worse, lead you right into it! There have even been cases of car GPS's telling people to turn off bridges or leading them onto railroad tracks that didn't exist. These types of incidents are easily avoided.
Updating your GPS online is your best bet. Often there is a website or built in software that will prompt you to update your maps. Use this. In fact use it often. New roads and new road statuses will not be updated on your car Gps navigation maps without doing so. As soon as you get your new Gps navigation out of the box update it.
Programming your car GPS for alerting you to landmarks such as schools, restaurants, bars, hotels and rest stops is merely a matter of turning on and off a function. Most of the time you can even set it to navigate to your favorite restaurant in the options menu. The rest stop option is one of my favorites; someone in the car always needs to go.
Whatever you do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], take care to always have a backup plan if something occurs to your GPS or if you get bad information. A road atlas doesn't take up much room so if you do find yourself completely out of whack, you will at least have a general idea as to where you are at
